What is Hair Transplantation?

Hair transplantation is a surgical technique that removes hair follicles from one part of the body, called the 'donor site', to a bald or balding part of the body known as the 'recipient site’.

The technique is primarily used to treat male pattern baldness.

How does a hair transplant work?

A hair transplant involves taking hair follicles from a donor area (usually the back or sides of the head) and transplanting them into areas where hair is thinning or balding. This is typically done through two methods: follicular unit transplantation (FUT) or follicular unit extraction (FUE).

Am I a good candidate for a hair transplant?

A qualified hair transplant specialist can assess your specific condition to determine if you are a good candidate. Generally, individuals with stable hair loss, enough donor hair, and realistic expectations make suitable candidates

What are the different types of hair transplant techniques available? What are the differences between these methods?

The main differences between FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) procedures are as follows:

A. Extraction Method:

- FUE: In FUE, individual hair follicles are extracted one by one using a small punch tool.

- DHI: In DHI, the hair follicles are extracted and implanted simultaneously using a specialized pen-like tool called a Choi implanter.

B. Implantation Technique:

- FUE: After extracting the hair follicles, they are typically stored in a solution and later implanted manually into the recipient area using a different instrument.

- DHI: With DHI, the Choi implanter tool is used to create tiny incisions in the recipient area immediately after the extraction. The hair follicles are then inserted directly into these incisions.

C. Downtime and Recovery:

- FUE: The recovery period for FUE is typically a few days, with minor scabbing and redness. It may take a few weeks for the transplanted hair to shed and start regrowing.

- DHI: The recovery period for DHI is generally similar to FUE, but since the implantation process is done simultaneously, there may be less shedding of transplanted hair. This can lead to quicker visible growth.

D. Precision and Control:

- FUE: FUE allows for precise extraction of individual hair follicles, providing the surgeon with greater control over the placement of grafts.

- DHI: DHI offers even more control and precision as the implantation is done immediately after extraction using the Choi implanter, resulting in accurate placement of grafts.

E. Time and Cost:

- FUE: The FUE procedure can be time-consuming, especially for larger sessions, as the extraction and implantation are separate steps. The cost may vary depending on the number of grafts.

- DHI: DHI is generally a faster procedure since the extraction and implantation occur together. As a more advanced technique, it may be slightly more expensive compared to traditional FUE.

Is a hair transplant a permanent solution for hair loss?

Yes, a hair transplant is considered a permanent solution because the transplanted hair is resistant to balding. However, it's important to note that existing hair loss may continue in untreated areas.

What is the recovery period like after a hair transplant procedure?

The recovery period varies depending on the technique used, but generally, it involves a healing phase of a few days to a week. The transplanted hair may initially fall out, but new hair growth should begin within a few months.

Are there any risks or side effects associated with hair transplants?

As with any surgical procedure, there can be risks and side effects, including infection, bleeding, scarring, and temporary hair thinning or shock loss. However, these risks are generally minimal.

How long does it take to see the final results of a hair transplant?

Hair growth after a transplant is a gradual process. Significant new hair growth can typically be expected within six to nine months, with full results becoming more apparent within a year.

Will the transplanted hair look natural?

When performed by a skilled and experienced surgeon, hair transplant results can look very natural. The surgeon will consider various factors, such as hairline design and graft placement, to ensure the transplanted hair blends seamlessly with your existing hair.

Can I undergo a hair transplant if I have limited donor hair?

The availability of donor hair is a crucial factor in determining a person’s eligibility for a hair transplant. If the donor hair is limited, we will assess the feasibility and may suggest alternative solutions or techniques.

How much does a hair transplant typically cost?

The cost of a hair transplant can vary depending on factors like the technique used, the extent of the procedure.

Is hair transplantation painful?

Since the removal of the hair roots is implemented under local anesthesia, the purpose is to make the patient feel no pain during the Transplantation. Only a slight pressure feel is reported, Nevertheless, that causes no discomfort. Likewise, the healing phase is completely pain-free.

Can the missing hair be seen at the donor site?

No. This is precisely the great advantage of FUE Technique over the FUT technique. By FUE, only small grafts are taken up to four hair roots, no scars remain. Only on closer inspection and under brighter spots, small sized pored can be realized, but do not stand under the hair.

How long will the transplanted hair grow?

There is no limit for hair growth. Since it is the body's own hair, they lead their growth simply elsewhere and continue to grow as long as permitted by the genetic hair length of the patient.

Can foreign hair be transplanted?

How long does hair transplant take?

For the actual transplantation, the doctors require about 6 to 7 hours. Since the transplant also requires a before & after study, patients should plan about two days for the hair transplant. After 15 days the last traces of the treatment can be examined.

Can you influence the later appearance of hair?
